Jerusalem should not be their eternal capital?

Has God really said …

- that Jerusalem should not be their eternal capital anymore??

Here are some Bible passages that provide an answer for this question:

Zechariah 1:17

17 "Proclaim further: This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'My towns will again overflow with prosperity, and the LORD will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.'"

Zechariah 2:12

12 The LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem.

Zechariah 12:2-3

2 "I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem.
3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.

Zechariah 14:2-4

2 I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city.
3 Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights in the day of battle.
4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south

Ezekiel 5:5

5 "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her.

Jeremiah 3:17

17 At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne of the LORD, and all nations will gather in Jerusalem to honor the name of the LORD.

Psalm 102:13,16-28

13 You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come.
16 For the LORD will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory.
17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.
18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD:
19 "The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death."
21 So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem
22 when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD.
23 In the course of my life he broke my strength; he cut short my days.
24 So I said: "Do not take me away, O my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations.
25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end.
28 The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you."

Micah 4:1-5

In the last days the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and peoples will stream to it.
2 Many nations will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Micah 4:11-13

11 But now many nations are gathered against you. They say, "Let her be defiled, let our eyes gloat over Zion!"
12 But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD; they do not understand his plan, he who gathers them like sheaves to the threshing floor.
13 "Rise and thresh, O Daughter of Zion, for I will give you horns of iron; I will give you hoofs of bronze and you will break to pieces many nations." You will devote their ill-gotten gains to the LORD, their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.

Luke 21:24-26

24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
25 "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.
26 Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Hebrews 11:13-16

13 All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.
14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.
15 And indeed if they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.
Our Conclusion Some people choose to interpret these types of Scriptures as being purely spiritual in significance. How can all of these Scriptures (and this list is far from comprehensive) be adequately explained in exclusively spiritual terms?

Even though the New Testament refers to a spiritual Jerusalem ("the one whose architect and builder is God") and even though Paul is using the term "Jerusalem above" in an allegorical sense (Gal 4:26) the normal usage of the term is geographical and not spiritual. How else could the prophets have referred to Jerusalem being attacked by the surrounding nations - and the nations of the whole world - in the time immediately preceding the Messiah's return? The fact that the heroes of faith looked beyond the time-space future does not invalidate the prophecies that refer to the time before eternity.

Todd, once again a great teaching blog. Jesus knew what his adnega was yet, faithfully, lovingly and calmly went about changing the lives of others. He KNEW what was in store for him, yet, never fretted or worried about the inevitable act of self and sacrifice he had to endure for US. Because of his horrendous death on a cross, he absorbed our sins so we may experience eternity in Heaven with Him. Thank You for having an affect on all of us who read your blog. You are our teacher and we know that God is with you every step of the way=-)

Does Israel live on a perfected New Earth with believing gentiles while the church inhabits the New Jerusalem as the Bride of Christ? Rev. 22:2 Talks about the leaves of the Tree of Life for the healing of the nations. Does that refer to those who dwell on the New Earth? Of course the gates to the New Jerusalem are always open and their is access to the city. Does this refer to the earth dwellers?
